Programme outcomes

The objective of the Master’s programme in Banking and Finance is to provide students with a sound education in core areas from the field of finance. In addition, the programme imparts knowledge from other sub-areas from the field of business and economics as well as from related fields and methodological subjects.

Students of the programme acquire the latest theoretical and methodological competences, equipping them for a successful career in the financial sector, in public administration or with regulatory authorities. 

Advanced courses focusing on different research areas provide an opportunity for students to give their education a more practice-oriented or a more academia-oriented focus. Compulsory elective modules and individual specialisations enable students to select courses according to their interests.

Fields of activity

Graduates of the master’s programme in Banking and Finance have the methodological and academic profile required for taking up special positions and leading positions in the financial sector, in public administration or with regulatory authorities.

The special focus on Business Administration trains students in the area of modern bank management or corporate finance and prepares them for careers in consultancy companies, controlling, corporate finance departments, risk management as well as in corporate banking and investment banking.

The special focus on Science Orientation is aimed at students who strive for a career in central banks, state authorities supervising different segments of the financial market, international financial institutions and research departments of banks, or who plan to continue their academic education in the form of a PhD programme in the field of finance.

Personal requirements

The programme is not only open to graduates from degree programmes focusing on business and economics, but is also aimed at graduates of any fields of study who are interested in financial issues and, in particular, to those with a formal background in academia. 

All courses are taught in English. Therefore, English language skills corresponding to language level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are required.

Mathematical and statistical ability

We encourage students with various backgrounds such as business, economics, statistics, mathematics and physics to apply.
A sound background in mathematical and statistical tools is advantageous but not a requirement. But we expect students to have a working knowledge of calculus and should know the basics of vectors and matrices, probability and statistics. 

Professional experience

Candidates are not required to have previous work experience and this would not disadvantage them in any way.
