Biography
Professor Peter J. Buckley, Alliance Manchester Business School, UK is one of the world’s most influential voices in International Business. With more than 63,000 citations on Google Scholar, his groundbreaking work has shaped how we understand multinational enterprises and global strategy.
A pioneering academic and institution builder, Professor Buckley founded both the Centre for International Business and the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds—two globally recognized hubs for research and collaboration.His expertise has been sought by leading universities worldwide, including the Sorbonne in Paris, Groningen, Hong Kong City University, BI Norwegian Business School Oslo, Lancaster, and Reading, where he has served as Visiting Professor.
Over an illustrious career, he has authored 30 books and more than 250 peer-reviewed journal articles, including around 30 in the Journal of International Business Studies. His research explores the theory of the multinational enterprise, focusing on foreign direct investment, knowledge management, and internationalization from emerging economies such as China and India.
A leader in the field, Professor Buckley has served as President of the Academy of International Business (2002–2004) and Chair of the European International Business Academy (2009–2012). His outstanding contributions have earned him some of academia’s highest honors, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), the Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award, and election as a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA).
