Admission to the Master's programme Business Analytics

The University of Vienna limits the number of students newly admitted to the master programme “Business Analytics” to 40 students per academic year.

Next Admission Period

Application period for the next Academic Year (2020/21) (incl. period for online pre-registration) will open from 2 March to 30 April 2020. In case of a successful application, your courses will start 1st October 2020.

Please note that all applications must be submitted via u:space.

In principle, it is also possible to start in the summer semester, but we strongly advise against this, as the introductory courses in particular are only offered in the winter semester and are essential for a good start to your studies.

How to apply

Is it the first time that you enrol at the University of Vienna?

The registration requires two steps: activating your u:account and registering for u:space. (see video tutorial)

  • Activating your u:account: Via your u:account, you have access to the IT services of the University of Vienna. In the course of activating your u:account, you will receive your UserID for logging in to u:space. To activate your u:account please follow the instructions here.
  • Registering for u:space: Having successfully activated your u:account, you will receive an e-mail with your login data for u:space. There, you enter your personal data, which will be stored for all further activities. Following your registration, you can apply for admission to a degree programme in U:SPACE and edit your personal data. To apply for the master's programme go to "Master" --> "Master's Degree Programme Business Analytics".

Please upload your application documents at U:SPACE, including the follwing documents, regardless of the citizenship and the country of issuance of your degree

  • Bachelor Diploma (scanned in pdf-format). In case you have not completed your Bachelor studies at the time of application, please include a formal letter issued by your current institution confirming that you have obtained 150 ECTS and that you will receive your bachelor degree until September 30th, 2020
  • Diploma Supplement, Transcript of Records or Consolidated Grade Record (scanned in pdf-format)
  • Full curriculum vitae in English

Language proficiency

Applicants are required to prove their proficiency in English on the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The following certificates are accepted:

  • TOEFL: ibt (internet-based): minimum score: 87 points;
  • IELTS: Overall Band Score: 6,5;
  • Cambridge English First Certificate (FCE) –Grade C or above (160 points minimum);
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Result: Level B2;
  • Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien: Certificate of language proficiency (Sprachkompetenznachweis) on level B2;

The certificate proving the applicant’s English proficiency must be issued no more than three years prior to the application.

Letter of Motivation

Your letter should address the following questions:

  • What is your personal motivation to apply for this program?
  • In which ways do you think your prior experiences, qualifications, and skills will support your studies at our department?
  • What do you expect to learn in doing the master program, and which role does it play in your further academic, personal, and professional development?

Notification and further procedure

Candidates will be informed in June whether they have been accepted to the programme. The official notification of admission can be used to apply for a residence authorisation.

Successful candidates will be required to finalise their admission procedure in person at the admissions office. At this appointment students are required to present hardcopies of all application documents. To be able to register for the courses starting October 1st, it is highly recommended to fully complete registration by mid September at the latest.
