Wir freuen uns, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Jan Fabian Ehmke als Professor für Business Analytics, mit Dienstbeginn 01.04.2020, an der Fakultät begrüßen zu dürfen. Er ist dem Institut für Business Decisions and Analytics zugeordnet.
Jan Ehmke ist seit 2017 Professor für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insbes. Management Science, an der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg. Zuvor war er als Professor für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insbes. Business Analytics, an der Europa-Universität Viadrina, Frankfurt, sowie als Juniorprofessor für Advanced Business Analytics an der Freien Universität Berlin tätig. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen anwendungsorientiert – von einer quantitativen, datengetriebenen Perspektive ausgehend – an der Schnittstelle von Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Wirtschaftsinformatik und Operations Research. Die methodischen Schwerpunkte sind dabei in den Bereichen „Predictive Analytics“ und „Prescriptive Analytics“ verortet. Anwendungsseitig beschäftigt er sich u.a. mit dynamisch-stochastischer Optimierung von Mobilitäts- und Transportdienstleistungen.
Jan Ehmke studierte Diplom-Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Technischen Universität Braunschweig, seine Promotion (summa cum laude) erfolgte ebendort mit einer Dissertation zum Thema “Integration of information and optimization models for routing in city logistics”.
In den Jahren 2018 und 2019 erhielt Ehmke den Lehrpreis für die beste Lehrveranstaltung in betriebswirtschaftlichen Bachelor-Studiengängen der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg. Weiters wurde er für den Green Transportation Award nominiert und mit FME-Förderpreis für herausragende Promotionsleistungen ausgezeichnet.
Neben zahlreichen begutachteten Beiträgen in Zeitschriften, war Ehmke als Speaker bei internationalen Vorträgen geladen, zuletzt u.a. beim Workshop on Models in AI 2020 in Wien, dem INFORMS Annual Meeting 2019 in Seattle (USA), der GOR Jahrestagung 2018 in Brüssel (Belgien), sowie der EURO Conference 2018 in Valencia (Spanien). Er ist u.a. Mitherausgeber des “Special Issue Smart Services: The Move to Customer-Orientation” und war als Organisator von wissenschaftlichen Konferenzen wie der Jahrestagung OR 2017 sowie als Gutachter tätig. Er ist derzeit Communications Chair der INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics Society.
Aufgrund der Vorbereitung des neuen Masterstudiums Business Analytics, welches im Wintersemester 2020 beginnt, war Prof. Ehmke bereits seit mehreren Wochen intensiv in die Abstimmungen an der Fakultät eingebunden.
Im laufenden Sommersemester unterrichtet Prof. Ehmke – aufgrund des Notbetriebs online – das Master-Seminar Smart Production and Supply Chain Management.
Die aktuelle Situation stellt neue Professor*innen vor eine besondere Herausforderung. Wir wünschen Prof. Ehmke trotz der erschwerten Bedingungen einen guten Start an der Fakultät!

Welcome to the faculty, professor Ehmke!
We are happy to welcome Univ.-Prof. Dr. Jan Fabian Ehmke as professor for Business Analytics starting with April 1, 2020 to our faculty. He is associated with the Department for Business Decisions and Analytics.
Jan Ehmke is professor of Business Administration with focus on Management Science at the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg since 2017. Prior to that he was a professor of Business Administration with focus on Business Analytics at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt and junior professor of Advanced Business Analytics at the Free University of Berlin. His research interests are application-oriented and lie - starting from a quantitative, data-driven perspective - at the interface of Business Administration, Information Systems and Operations Research. His methodical focus lies in the areas of “Predictive Analytics” and “Prescriptive Analytics”. Regarding application he focuses i.a. on Dynamic-Stochastic Optimization of Mobility and Transport Services.

In 2018 and 2019 Ehmke received the teaching award for Best Lecture in Business Administration Bachelor’s programmes of the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg. Moreover, he was nominated for the Green Transportation Award and received the FME prize for outstanding dissertations.
Ehmke published numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals, he was an invited speaker at international talks, recently i.a. at the Workshop on Models in AI 2020 in Vienna, at the INFORMS Annual Meeting 2019 in Seattle(USA), the GOR Annual Meeting 2018 in Brussels (Belgium), as well as the EURO Conference 2018 in Valencia (Spain). Ehmke is i.a. co-editor of “Special Issue Smart Services: The Move to Customer-Orientation”, he organized scientific conferences as f.e. the OR Annual Meeting 2017 and reviewed papers. Currently he serves as Communications Chair der INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics Society.
Due to the preparations for the new Master’s programme Business Analytics, which starts in the winter term 2020, professor Ehmke was involved intensively for the last several weeks in the respective coordination process.
In the ongoing summer term professor Ehmke teaches - because of the emergency operation online - the Master’s Seminar Smart Production and Supply Chain Management.
The current situation is a particular challenge for new professors. We wish professor Ehmke a good start at our faculty, in spite of the difficult conditions!
