PhD programmes

Every PhD or doctoral programme offered at the Faculty can be roughly divided in two phases.

  1. Entry and concept phase
  2. Research phase

During the entry and concept phase, students complete courses that focus on in-depth methodological training and that impart the methodological foundations for independent research.
In cooperation with their supervisors, students develop their own research project for their doctoral thesis which they present at a public presentation at the Faculty in the context of a research seminar.

The actual research is conducted in the course of the research phase.  This phase focuses on independent academic work under implementation of subject-specific research methods and the writing of the doctoral thesis.

The Faculty attaches great importance to interdisciplinary cooperation. The research seminars and courses provide an opportunity for doctoral students to closely cooperate not only with their supervisors but also with other doctoral students and the academic staff of the Faculty.
