The Österreichische HochschülerInnenschaft (ÖH) supports students in various ways. Its scope stretches from advising on student rights and organisational concerns to the organising of events and representation in commissions creating new curricula.

There are several levels of representation. Every faculty has students' representation (Studienvertretungen) and faculty representation (Fakultätsvertretungen). Every Austrian university and other institutions of higher education have universty respresentatives (Universitätsvertretung) and national representation (Bundesvertretung).

The ÖH-Elections stake place every two years and every student has the right to vote on three levels (Studienvertretung, Fakultätsvertretung, Universitätsvertretung). It is possible to vote for nominated candidates from the field of study and for the university and national level candidates nominated by the parties.
