Willkommen an der Fakultät, Prof. Emmanuella Plakoyiannaki

Wir freuen uns, dass Frau Univ.-Prof. Emmanuella Plakoyiannaki, BA PhD, den Ruf auf die Professur „International Business“ angenommen hat. Sie ist dem Institut für Betriebswirtschaftslehre zugeordnet.

Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen an der Schnittstelle von Internationalisierung von KMUs und Familienunternehmen, internationale neue Unternehmen und qualitativer Forschung.

Vor ihrem Ruf an die Universität Wien war Prof. Plakoyiannaki Professorin für International Business an der University of Leeds (UK). Ihr Werdegang führte sie nach ihrem Bachelorstudium Economics an der Aristotle University of Thessaloniki zunächst für den PhD in Marketing an die University of Strathclyde (Glasgow), an der Plakoyiannaki anschließend als Post-Doctoral Fellow tätig war. Ihre PhD-Studien wurden von der Greek State Scholarships Foundation unterstützt, die Post-Doc-Forschung wurde vom Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC( (UK) gefördert.

Von 2004 bis 2013 war sie Lecturer, Assistenzprofessorin und folgend assoziierte Professorin in Marketing an der Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, bis zu ihrem Beginn an der University of Leeds. Prof. Plakoyiannaki war Visiting Professor u.a. in St. Petersburg, Helsinki und Athen, auch an der Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaften war sie 2016 bereits zu Gast.

Derzeit ist Prof. Plakoyiannaki Vorsitzende der Interessengruppe "International Business/International Management" der British Academy of Management (BAM). Sie veröffentlichte zahlreiche Publikationen, darunter über 20 Artikel in von Expert*innen begutachteten Fachzeitschriften (peer-reviewed Journals), die der Financial Times List zugeordnet werden; zudem wird sie regelmäßig als Gastdozentin und Hauptrednerin an führende internationale Universitäten und Konferenzen eingeladen und betreut Doktorarbeiten.

Im Sommersemester 2020 wird Prof. Plakoyiannaki die Lehrveranstaltungen Principles of International Business (KU) und Qualitative Research (KU) leiten. Sie wird Masterarbeiten im Bereich KMUs und Internationalisierung von Familienunternehmen betreuen.

We are pleased that Professor Emmanuella Plakoyiannaki, BA PhD has accepted the offer for professorship of “International Business”. She is associated with the Department of Business Administration

Her research interests touch upon SMEs and family firms internationalization, international new ventures and qualitative research.

Before she joined the University of Vienna, Prof. Plakoyiannaki was professor of International Business at the University of Leeds, UK. After her BA in Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she moved to Scotland to pursue PhD studies at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow), where she subsequently remained as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. Her doctoral studies were supported by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation, while her Post-doctoral research was funded by the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC), UK. 

Starting 2004 until 2013, Prof. Plakoyiannaki held the positions of Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the School of Economics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece until joining the University of Leeds in 2014. Prof. Plakoyiannaki was Visiting Professor amongst others in Aalborg, Athens, Glasgow, Helsinki, Saint Petersburg, and, as well as at our Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics in 2016.

She is currently chairing the International Business/International Management special interest group of the British Academy of Management (BAM). She has published numerous papers, including over 20 in peer-reviewed journals that are part of the Financial Times List; she is regularly invited as a guest lecturer and keynote speaker at leading international universities and conferences and provides supervision for PhD Theses. 

In the summer semester of 2020, Prof. Plakoyiannaki will teach the courses Principles of International Business (KU) and Qualitative Research (KU). She will be supervising Master theses in the topics of SMEs and family firms internationalization.
