Graduation possibilities

1) Complete the “old” degree programme

You complete one of the degree programmes listed above before 30 November 2017.

If you are enrolled on a doctoral programme or PhD programme that will be phased out and would like to graduate before 30 November 2017, please note that the administrative procedure with regard to your graduation may take several months.

2) Transfer to the new curricula of the doctoral/PhD programmes voluntarily

If you cannot or do not want to complete the degree programmes listed above by 30 November 2017, you have the opportunity to voluntarily transfer to the new curricula of the doctoral or PhD programmes by submitting the relevant form.

The form is available on the Student Point website.

 

3) Recognition of examinations when transferring to the new doctoral/PhD programme curricula

The competent body must decide in each individual case which completed courses and passed examinations can be recognised for the new curriculum.

Deadlines and steps for graduating from the “old” doctoral/PhD programmes

  • 1) Approval of the topic/supervisor for the doctoral thesis by the Directorate of StudiesSubmission to the StudiesServiceCenter (SSC) by 27 January 2017 at the latest
  • 2) Appointment of reviewers for the doctoral thesis by the Directorate of Studies/Studienpräses
    Submission to the SSC by 15 June 2017 at the latest
    We strongly recommend you take these steps much (at least two years) earlier to ensure that you have sufficient supervision when you work on your doctoral thesis. This way you can also be sure that the Faculty accepts the intended topic as suitable for a doctoral thesis.
  • 3) Upload and submit the doctoral thesis to HOPLA We can guarantee that you will be able to graduate in time if you take this step by 15 June 2017 at the latest.
  • 4) Submit the print versions of your thesisWe can guarantee that you will be able to graduate in time if you submit the print versions to the SSC by 15 June 2017.
  • 5) Forwarding of the doctoral thesis to the reviewers
    (The SSC is responsible for forwarding your thesis to the reviewers.)
  • 6) Preparation of the reports on the doctoral thesis
    (The reviewers have up to 4 months to write their reports.)
  • 7) Assessment of the doctoral thesis
    The reports have to be submitted to the SSC by 16 November 2017 at the latest.
  • 8) Appointment of an examination committee for the public defence
    An examination date has to be fixed by 16 November 2017 at the latest.
  • 9) Public defence (= defence of the doctoral thesis)
    Last possible examination date: 30 November 2017

    As you can see, these deadlines fully exploit the period until 30 November 2017. They are therefore absolutely binding and must be met in any case. We ask you to bear these deadlines in mind when you plan your studies.
